“There is a fine line between angry and grumpy. Angry isn’t nice, but grumpy is funny.” – Rick Wakeman. Just like Rick Wakeman has said, there really is a fine line between angry and grumpy. It doesn’t take long for an adult to cross that line and with a child, it is much faster. We have 5 tips to handle a grumpy child.
Here are the 5 tips to handle a grumpy child:
1. Get them talking
Talking always works like magic. Talk to your child, Be polite and calm while asking your child about the issue they are facing. Observe them while talking to a pet, an imaginary friend or just to themselves.
2. Indulge in activities
Encourage your child to do things they love to do – activities like drawing, painting, dancing, singing, reading, etc. Indulging in different activities can help your child refocus on their thoughts.
3. Showing love and affection
As said by Charles Caleb Colton – ‘A hug is worth a thousand words.’ Never underestimate the power of your hug. It can calm your child’s frustration.
4. Be their role model
Children mimic their parents, Set an example for your kid. Be their role model. Do calming things in frustrating situations and your child is likely to do the same.
5. Applaud positive actions
Being praised by their parents is what kids want the most. If you notice them dealing with a situation in a positive way, let them know. Compliment them for their actions or give them a small treat. Your praise can motivate them to continue with their positive behavior.
